DRP - PA coalition wins most seats at parliamentary election
The provisional result of the country’s first multiparty parliamentary elections was announced on Tuesday night at 10:15pm by the Commissioner of Elections Mohamed Ibrahim. According to the announcement, the DRP won 28 seats while the PA, which is in a coalition with the DRP, won seven seats, in effect giving the DRP-PA coalition 35 seats at the People’s Majlis. The MDP followed DRP closely with 28 seats, while the Dhivehi Qaumee Party (QDP) candidates won two seats. The Jumhooree Party (JP) also won one seat. Independent candidates fared better than both QDP and JP, winning a total of 13 seats.
