More than 20,000 passengers to Maldives have been screened in their efforts stop swine flu (Inluenza A H1N1) from spreading to Maldives, the Health Ministry has said.
Of all the passengers screened for swine flu symptoms at the International Airport and seaport, only one person has been flagged as a potential victim and tested so far. The test had proven negative for swine flu however.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that swine flu infections had been confirmed in 30 countries so far, and many of the countries, such as China, Hong Kong and Korea, are popular destinations among Maldivians. The Health Ministry has issued a statement cautioning Maldivians not to travel to those countries unless absolutely necessary and even then to take proper precautions before leaving.
