Gayyoom Complains Receiving Pension Only After Removed from 30 Year Office
The former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has said he is not receiving government promised assistance and monetary aids but only a handful of money as a pension for 20 years of government service. The unpopular so called secretariat of the former president’s office said that its staffs were paid only for 5 months from the government as promised but after 5 months it has been dissolved adding that Gayyoom and his wife Nasreena’s trip to Singapore for medical treatment government only granted half the cost while Gayyoom had to pay from his own wallet for his body guards of their airfare and stay in Singapore. The press secretary of the president’s office, Mohamed Zuhair retaliating to the statement from Gayyoom, said Nasheed’s government is doing everything possible for the former president to provide necessary grants and assistance but certain elements clashed government keeping a halt to promised grants. He said it was halted because a bill was sent to the parliament on providing former president the grants for his welfare and auditor General also has advised to halt the financial assistance to former president. Moreover he said Gayyoom was given several assistance and privileges such as official state vehicles for his transport.
