A man who was stabbed several times during a fight between two gangs in Malé is being treated in the ICU of the ADK Hospital.
A Police Media Official said that the 20-year-old man had suffered serious wounds on his chest and back from a sharp object. The attack had occurred on Muthee Goalhi in Henveiru Ward. Police did not reveal the identity of the victim.
The Managing Director of ADK Hospital, Ahmed Affaal, said that the patient’s status was critical.
Police said that it wasn’t clear why the confrontation between the gangs had occurred and that they had arrested two people in connection to the attack. An eyewitness at the scene said that it was an argument about politics that had escalated into violence.
The incident had occurred sometime after the Police had dispersed a demonstration organized by DRP members who claimed that the results of the parliamentary elections had been rigged.
